Is It Too Late to Book a Summer Holiday?

Here’s what you need to know if you want to book a getaway for summer 2023.

If you're late to the game on planning your summer holiday, don’t panic, there’s still plenty of time to organise a fun, memorable, and relaxing week away.

Why Mid Wales?

With the chaos of planned airport strikes again this year, a staycation in Mid Wales is a fantastic option for a stress-free last-minute getaway. You won't have to worry about flight delays or cancellations. Plus, you'll save time and money on travel.

Mid Wales offers an extraordinary escape from the hustle and bustle of town and city life. With its stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, and plenty of walking trails, it's the perfect destination for you to explore and enjoy this summer.

What about my dog?

One of the hardest parts of booking a last-minute trip over the summer months is finding someone to look after the dogs. Good professionals are booked solid months in advance, and friends and family are likely to have their own travel plans.

At Mid Wales Holidays, not only do we still have availability in our 2-bed and 1-bed self-catering cottages in July and August, but you get to bring your dog along with you too.

Top tip: If you are booking a last-minute holiday, be sure to check that your dog’s microchip is up to date. If the details are wrong and your dog was to go missing while you’re on holiday, it’ll be harder to be reunited.

What can I do while I’m there?

We pride ourselves on the fact that we’re not just a dog-friendly destination, we're a destination designed for dogs. As guests, you are invited to enjoy our 15 acres of private fields, woodlands and ponds at your leisure during your stay.

Your host Collette May has also been working professionally with dogs for over a decade and is able to offer a range of training and sitting services for guests staying in the holiday cottages too.

Where is there to visit locally?

If you want to venture further afield than Mid Wales Holiday’s private fields and woodlands, there is much to see and do locally where your dogs will be welcome.

Mid Wales Holidays is a great base from which to explore the borderlands of England and Wales, an area of pretty countryside and charming market towns.

Just 10 minutes down the road is Llanidloes (voted one of the most desirable places to live in Wales), a lovely small Welsh market town, with lots of unique shops and dog-friendly places to eat and drink.

Newtown is 15 minutes away in the opposite direction. Set on the banks of the River Severn, this historic market town is famous for its arts and music with museums, art galleries and theatre.

Machynlleth, Rhayader and Builth Wells are all within driving distance too, as are Shrewsbury and Ludlow to the East.

Local attractions include Gregynog Hall and Powys Castle, plus there is access to steam train rides, canal boat trips, golf, clay pigeon shooting, simulated game shooting, driven game shooting (during the season), cycling, and horse riding.

There are numerous lovely walks and woodland areas to explore right on our doorstep. We’re located within easy travelling distance of Hafren Forest, Clywedog Reservoir, Elan Valley, and multiple nature reserves.

It wouldn't be a real summer holiday without a trip to the beach. Aberystwyth and the stunning Welsh Cambrian coastline and beaches are less than an hour’s scenic drive away too.

So no, it's never too late to plan a fun, interesting and enjoyable summer getaway with your dog.

And what’s more, you’ll never regret taking the time to create lasting memories. Whether it's your dog's first dip in the sea, a scenic hike, or simply the joy of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time together, these moments will be cherished for years to come.
