Gundogs attending the training holidays need to have a good recall, be keen to retrieve, happy with shot, mostly steady and at a good novice/intermediate level to get the most out of this opportunity.
Dogs will be expanding on their knowledge of marking, taking memories and blinds in different and diverse terrain. There might be opportunities for a cold game session, a water training session (weather permitting), a walked-up scenario in cover, and remote dummy launchers. The social side of the holiday is as important as the training to most handlers so we try to go out to a local pub or restaurant one night for dinner.
As well as our 2-bed cottage Y Beudy and 1-bed Penrhyllan, there are also 2 caravans available for gundog handlers to book, plus space for camping or your own caravan with electric hook up.
Our two 2/4 bed touring caravans are located at the bottom of the yard next to the fields. The views are the best on the site and access for the dog’s straight to the fields is a bonus. The caravans are fully equipped with bathrooms, including a shower, toilet, oven/hob, microwave, dining table, heating and all the kitchen equipment you will need. The awnings, which are put up in the summer months only, give you more space for the outdoor gear.
The caravans are all dog friendly and suitable for those that prefer to have their own space during the gundog holidays or those looking for a cheaper option to the cottage. We have auto-fill water containers and all vans have heaters that warm them up really quick in those cooler months. There is space for parking next to each van.
Alternatively, if you have a group of 4-6 handlers and want to come for a training holiday with people you know then get in touch to organise your own dates. If you are a dog trainer and want to bring your own group of clients to train here please get in touch.
As well as running Mid Wales Holidays, and sharing her home with Labrador Retrievers, Angus, Grace, Harry and Fern, plus cheeky Chihuahua-cross Rosie, Collette is also the proud owner-founder of Completely Gundogs.
Over the last decade, Collette has dedicated her life to learning about science-based, reward-based gundog training in order to teach her students to train their dogs in a fun, force free and effective way.
Before starting her first dog training, walking and sitting business, Lead & Listen in Surrey, she completed extensive theoretical and practical training with world-class trainers, including Chirag Patel.
Collette has a particular interest in how we can communicate more effectively with our dogs by reading their body language and also by being more aware of our own. Understanding our canine friends is the secret to increased cooperation and general obedience.
Passionate about gundog breeds, Collette regularly takes her own dogs picking up throughout the season and is an accredited Gundog Club instructor and assessor.
An avid competitor too, taking part in gundog working tests and field trials, Collette has achieved numerous awards in working tests and is proud to have reached these high standards using positive reinforcement methods of training.
She believes that training should always be fun and enjoyable for both the dog and handler, regardless of the end goal. Collette finds it rewarding to help owners train their dogs, to improve their relationship and reduce problems both at home and out in the field, whether working or competing.
